My plaques are inspired by the house signs I saw when I was growing up in England – in particular in Rye, a historic town known for its ceramics, where nearly every cottage has a plaque.
I trained at the Hastings College of Art in Britain and have been creating handpainted ceramics for over 40 years.
Handpainted on white earthenware clay, my plaques are fired, glazed and fired again, making them weatherproof and long lasting.
In the early 80’s I opened Margaret Keenan Design Studio – a home decor shop featuring my ceramic work – in Oakville, Ontario, Canada where many houses still bear my plaques.
I now live in The Harbord Village neighbourhood of Toronto and work out of my home studio.
